Broad Gauge

How can you transform letters sketched in the margins of a notebook into a cohesive and usable typeface?

Named for wider-than-standard set railroad tracks, Broad Gauge is a super-extended slab serif with contrasting thick and thin strokes. The extended nature of type on trains led me to think about aspects of our print and digital world today where there might be a need for typefaces that fit wide expanses of space, but where height is limited. The project was a great learning experience, and it was completely exhilarating to export the file and start typing with my design.
